after a few weather glitches and issues scheduling our hour weekend session together, debbie threw in the towel and we knocked out a holiday card photo session in my tiny home studio at my house in 12 south part of Nashville. not romantic or all the feels of an in-home shoot, but these studio sessions are really great options for getting some shots of the kids together, sweet portraits, and offer opportunity for clean colorful photos in which we can still get sweet personalities in print. the “cora” sessions are short and sweet, 15 minutes and include all the files. so they are a budget friendly way to get updated photos year round. i thought id share what we got that morning in those few minutes together. stay tuned for a studio mini sessions this spring in march, and a few in the fall too!
i was SO honored when rory asked me to capture her family. she wanted FUN, real photos of her little clan and so we picked a park close to our neighborhood. an iconic park in nashville, but one where they could spread their wings, literally in some cases and be playful in a gorgeous sunset park evening. i try not to play favorites, and loved each little foster's personalities, but evie stole my heart and the show pretty quickly. she LOVED the camera, and i loved her for it. she also reminded me SO much of my little middle child, tate. beats to her own drum.
this family is the epitome of natural...free...kind....and loving and glad i was able to capture these memories.
thanks to rory for trusting me. xoxo
the family unit - the heart of the home.
i photograph lots of families in nashville and beyond. my joy behind the camera comes from the kids. people say all the time, "how do you deal with other people's kids? isn't it exhausting?" - and its not at all. they are all so great, so much fun and they all have their own ideas and energy that they bring to each session. i also love it when the moms and the dads are both able to be there - or even just one of them and are ready to play, get in the frame and love on their kids. and there was a lot of this with this beautiful family on this gorgeous fall afternoon. cami and wes have a clear vision to parent organically and be an active part of their kids lives. and even more importantly, they are connected...to each other and then to jones and sophie. im so lucky to find this hidden gem in SO many of the families i get to capture and am thankful they open their private moments to me.
planning your fall session with extended family is a great idea and i loved being with all three of these family units on sunday in brentwood. each family is different - not just in age, genders and sizes - but in interests and mannerisms. most importantly, the love is bigger and more dynamic when there are cousins and aunts and uncles involved. and even greater when there are grandparents there. this is a love that cannot be faked and it symbolizes for me, a start to a season that focuses on the important values. being together as one big unit and making memories that will last generations.
thank you to this special family for sharing these moments with me and letting me capture them in a way that made us both look forward to the holidays!
